October 2nd - Worldwide day of prayer and fasting

Dear Brothers and Sisters,

After the "Change Management" session in London HOPEww is planning to do more to promote spirituality among our employees and volunteers. The various initiatives decided each were assigned a "champion" to ensure that they are implemented. I was asked to promote spiritual unity initiatives among our employees around the world.

We have also discussed this idea with the HOPE worldwide and Benevolence Committee of the churches, and the brothers and sisters there were very supportive. We propose a day of prayer and fasting for the poor (optional)on October 2, 2008 (Gandhi's birthday) for all HOPE employees who wish to participate. We are going to disseminate on the kingdom websites a fantastic paper by Robert Carillo, Lead Evangelist in San Diego, and also ask Christians who want to fast with us to feel free to join. Here is a draft of Robert's excellent paper for your encouragement (not yet finalized). (See attached file: Pure Religion Paper.doc)

If you have a prayer request related to this topic, please respond to this post. Everyone can come back and see the prayer request and pray for them. (Angela Samuels)

Change

I recently called into a conference call with the non-profit 911 network for good. Their guest was Seth Godin. He had good pointers about non-profits using the technology to get their name out. One idea that caught my eye was "change".

Since Detroit is going through a lot of change (new mayor), I want to get your thoughts about what kind of change you would like to see in the city of Detroit. The only thing I ask is that it be positive and uplifting. I know we have some people in Lansing and Grand Rapids so you can be specific towards your particular city. Maybe you want to share how a non-profits can help the city. You can share about what you have done in the city to promote change.

First Planning Session for Gardens

This week I have confirmed a location for our first onsite community garden for a low-income resident housing unit. I'm really excited that we got a free room at local library. There is no meeting room at the housing complex and with 0$ budget we have to be creative. We are having a local non-profit that specializes in community garden come speak with the group.

I'm currently working on our next location which will be in Oakland county. Stay tuned.
